    Alaska has some of the highest instances of mental illness, including chronic depression and suicide, in the nation. Employers in Alaska are facing growing numbers of requests for reasonable accommodation under the Americans With Disabilities Act based on mental disabilities.  This training will assist Human Resource professionals to understand employer ADA obligations, and to manage legal risk, associated with claims of ADA discrimination or retaliation related to mental disabilities. Participants will learn:

    ·         What constitutes a “mental or psychiatric disability” under the ADA;

    ·         When an employer can inquire about mental disabilities, and what questions the employer can ask;

    ·         What kinds of reasonable accommodations employers must provide; and

    ·         How to avoid actions that can be viewed as harassment or retaliation.
