The December NASHRM training is scheduled for Thursday, December15, 2022. Training will be delivered using Zoom, an online audio and web conferencing platform. If you plan to attend, please email our Programs Manager, Traci Gatewood at traci@g2diverse.com.

Our start time is 11:45 a.m. for sign-in, with the program running from 12:00-1:00 p.m. This presentation is expected to be approved for SHRM credits.

Session Description: A recent study reported nearly 70% of Americans approve of labor unions, which is near an all-time high.  The number of union organizing petitions has increased at the same rate over the last year.  During this time of a Union boom, it is more important than ever for Employers to understand labor laws.  This program will explain the contours of recent activity by Union and the National Labor Relations Board on a number of labor relations subjects, including the developing limits of protected concerted activity, other employee conduct under the Act, and other significant developments in labor law.  Please join Kyle Abraham, an employment and labor attorney with Ogletree Deakins, in a discussion of the practical implications of these new developments. Attendees will be encouraged to share their perspectives on the impact of the shifting sands of the NLRB’s expanding agenda.  Kyle will facilitate a discussion and offer recommendations on strategies for how to address these new challenges.

    Session Objectives:

    • Provide an understanding of the process in a union organizing campaign
    • Provide knowledge of the labor law and relations issues related to a union organizing campaign
    • Provide insights on the agenda of the NLRB GC and expanding protections for unions and union organizing activity.

Presenter Bio: Kyle Abraham is an employment and labor attorney with the law firm of Ogletree Deakins in Portland.   Kyle represents companies of all sizes, public employers, and non-profits in a host of HR related matters.   As an employment lawyer, Kyle provides advice and counseling to resolve problems at the earliest possible state and in a cost-effective manner.  In his labor law practice, Kyle’s practice runs the gamut, including negotiating collective bargaining agreements, advising on contract administration and union grievances, and representing employers before labor arbitrators, the National Labor Relations Board.  Additionally, Kyle is an experienced workplace investigator, and he has been recognized as an expert witness in the field of workplace investigations.

Outside of his legal practice, Kyle serves as the President of the Portland Human Resource Management Association, and a Primary Chapter Editor for the book, The Developing Labor Law.  He also serves as Lieutenant Colonel in the Oregon Air National Guard. https://ogletree.com/locations/portland-or/
