The January NASHRM luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in the Kiewit/Chandler room.
Our start time is 11:45 a.m. for sign-in, with the program running from 12:00-1:00 p.m. A full hour of educational instruction is required for SHRM-CP/SCP Credit. This presentation has been approved for SHRM and HRCI credits.
Nora Barlow, a founding member of the law firm Barlow Anderson, will provide an overview of workers’ compensation investigations best practices, which includes:
- What constitutes a compensable injury
- What is and is not a defense
- Why it is tough to win before the AK Workers’ Compensation Board
- Injury reporting criteria
- What can be done to contribute to a good outcome
- Dangers of obtaining medical care for the injured worker
- The Bermuda Training-Workers’ Compensation, FMLA, and ADA
Nora Barlow is a founding member of Barlow Anderson where she has a diverse practice including defense in workers compensation cases, workplace investigations, elder law, and general litigation.
Nora recognizes that each case is unique and works with her clients to identify the desired outcome and implement a cost-effective strategy to achieve her client’s goals.
Ms. Barlow received her J.D, with distinction and Order of the Coif, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, in 1991 and her B.A. in Environmental Science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1986. Ms. Barlow moved to Alaska in 1991 for a federal clerkship with the Honorable H. Russel Holland, Judge, and the Honorable James M. Fitzgerald, Senior Judge, United States District Court for the District of Alaska. Ms. Barlow gained extensive trial room experience as a felony prosecutor for the State of Alaska and a county counsel in California representing social services cases involving abused and neglected children. She is admitted to practice in both Alaska and California. Ms. Barlow is a Board Member on the Violent Crimes Compensation Board and a Committee Member for the Annual Jewish Cultural Gala.
NASHRM will no longer be providing lunch; as such, there is no fee for NASHRM members to attend the training. Lunch can be purchased at the Café at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, or you may bring your lunch. Training will start promptly at noon. Please arrive early enough to get your lunch and be present in the training room for an on-time start.
